2020 Graduation Guidelines

Class of 2020

Graduation Dress Code:
Girls: senior cap and gown (neatly pressed), dress (no longer than gown; does not have to be white); since you will be walking on grass that may be damp and making a lap around the track, please do not wear heels; shoes should be comfortable with hard soles. Athletic shoes are acceptable. Boys: senior cap and gown (neatly pressed; white shirt, solid dark tie or bow tie is optional, dark long pants, dark shoes and socks. Athletic shoes are acceptable. Mortarboards must be worn flat, not tilted forward, backward, or to the side. Neither caps nor gowns are to be altered or adorned in any way. Jewelry must be minimal. Chewing gum will not be permitted during ceremony. Everyone will be required to wear masks and gloves. Masks may be removed while crossing the stage.

Behavior of Graduation Candidates:
Students are expected to behave appropriately for a formal ceremony. Any student not cooperating with any GHS personnel or law enforcement personnel will not participate in the graduation ceremony. Any student under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs will not participate in the graduation ceremony and will be escorted off the school campus by law enforcement personnel, and the student will also be subject to criminal prosecution. Please, do not do anything that will jeopardize your opportunity to participate in the graduation exercises.

Graduation:
Wednesday, June 3, 2020, 9:00 AM

Students will report to the football field. Students’ names will be taped to the seats they will occupy during graduation. Report promptly at 8:00 A.M. to your designated seat.

Baccalaureate: The district will hold a virtual Baccalaureate service that will be on social media and district website on Sunday, May 31.

Fees Owed: All devices, books and uniforms must be turned in and all fees must be paid by Monday, May 18, or Tuesday, May 19, by 3:00 PM. Anyone who fails to do so will not receive tickets for graduation.

Diplomas: Diplomas will be handed to graduates during the graduation ceremony. Students choosing not to participate in the graduation ceremony on June 3rd may pick up their diploma packet beginning June 4th. Diplomas will not be mailed; therefore, if you would like to have a parent or other designee in the area pick up your diploma packet, it will be necessary to sign a form granting permission for that individual to do so. Please contact your counselor if you did not take care of this on May 18 or 19.

Tickets: Each student will be given two tickets for family and friends to attend the ceremony in the stadium. No person (including babies and children) will be allowed to enter the stadium without a graduation ticket. Tentatively, tickets will be distributed Thursday, May 28, 2020 from 9:00am - 4:00pm and Tuesday, June 2 from 11:00am - 6:00pm. Students must have all materials returned and fee paid to receive tickets.

Parking: Seniors will park or be dropped off in the career center parking lot. Please leave purses, backpacks, etc., in the cars. Make sure you come fully dressed with your cap and gown as there will not be space for you to dress once you get here. Guests will park in in the stadium parking lot. Gates will open at 7:30. Seniors and their parents will be issued parking passes along with tickets for the correct lot. No one will be allowed in the designated parking spaces without the correct pass.

Awards Ceremony for the Class of 2020: Senior Awards will be virtual. The program will be aired on social media and the school website on Monday, June 1 after 5:00pm.

Additional Information about Graduation
• In your packet is a Senior Parking Pass for the Career Center Lot. Graduates will be the only ones allowed on the road between GMS and GHS that morning with that parking pass.
• Your two guests will be given a General Parking Pass to park in the Stadium Parking Lot. No one will be allowed to enter the Gym/Stadium Parking Lot unless they have a General Parking Pass and a ticket.
• Walkers will not be allowed on campus unless they possess a graduation ticket.
• There will not be a graduation practice. Graduates need to be in their seats on the field by 8 a.m. Faculty members will be stationed on the field to help you find your seat. Further instructions on the ceremony will be given then. Remain in your seat to maintain social distancing.
• Please remember not to wear shoes with hard soles or high heels. You will be walking a lap around the track as the processional and the grass on the field may be damp.
• Graduates are to enter the Booster Club gate by the shed. Please remember to leave purses/bags and any extra items (balloons, flowers, signs, etc.) in your vehicles.
• Ms. Brown and Ms. Pieterse will be at this gate to issue masks and gloves to each graduate if you do not have your own.
• You will pick up your diploma cover from a table as you cross the stage. Before you return to your seat, you will stop at a table manned by Ms. Johnson and Ms. Finley. They will slide an envelope to you containing your diploma and other materials.
• Graduates and their families are asked to leave the campus immediately following the ceremony.
