Criteria for joining the Georgetown Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta

Please read the following carefully before you complete your application.

To be eligible to join the GHS chapter of the Mu Alpha Theta, students must meet ALL of the following requirements:

  • The student must have completed two courses of college preparatory mathematics and have completed or are currently enrolled in a third mathematics course. The third course must also be of a college preparatory or above level. One of the three required courses must be Algebra II. If they have finished Algebra II they must be enrolled in a subsequent math course.
  • The student must have a minimum grade average of 85% for all their math courses beginning with Algebra I, and must maintain this average as an active member.
  • The student must have spent at least one semester in Georgetown High School (unless they were members, in good standing, of Mu Alpha Theta in another school)

Also, please note that students who meet all the above criteria must be willing and able to complete at least 4 service hours a month; and, 1 of those monthly service hours must be earned by tutoring in the Mu Alpha Theta afterschool tutoring program.

If you meet the above criteria, and are willing to pay the $30 initiation fee, please see Ms. Todd to get an application (or you can downloard one from the File Manager page). All completed applications are due to Ms. Todd by Friday, September 15th.
